I’ve been thinking about getting Bebe H a real bike since she was about 1-1/2 years old.

Not because I’m some giant riding fanatic (though I do have a history of taking off for entire summer days on my bike – alone – in late elementary school), but I just thought it would be the cutest thing to see – a teeny tiny little girl riding a big-girl bike.  What can I say, I’m a mama.

Not to mention that since she could form words she’s been asking for a bike.  While at the mall standing in front of a big wishing fountain I explained to Bebe H that she could throw her penny in the water and wish for anything she wanted.  She asked for a Blue Bike.  (Subsequent wishes included other colors, but the Bike wish stayed the same.)

Anyway, the winter holidays and her February birthday never seemed like the right time to give this gift because – let’s face it – I don’t want to stand around in the cold while she’s learning to pedal.  (And she is still a toddler, so let’s be real about the chances of her wanting to be out in the cold too.)

As luck would have it, my mom is visiting us from Sun-shiney New Mexico, and decided to gift Bebe H with an early holiday present – that long awaited bike.

The photos for the next few days will most certainly feature this epic event for Bebe H.

Today’s photo shows the great seriousness of such a monumental occasion – getting suited up.
