Naperville Documentary Portraits of Kids at Home – The Marker Incident

Photojournalistic Family Photography in Naperville by Appelman Images Photography

Nope. I don’t know anything about any markers.

My kids are still very small and curious and, well, not exactly very coordinated.  And like most small kids (and big kids), they like arts and crafts and coloring and all of that sort of stuff.

Call me a mean mommy, but I usually don’t let them have markers and paint and glue and all of that messy sort of stuff, because – let’s face it.  I don’t want to clean it up.

Thankfully they’re in pre-school so they get to work out their messy creative energy in a contained environment (again – which I don’t have to clean….).

Sure, they can have crayons and colored paper and most things that don’t spill so easily.  But I generally keep the messy stuff put away.

However.  This holiday they both got their own pack of colored markers and blank colored paper.

So I relented  – for exactly 47 seconds.

And while I was showing my little daughter how to draw a heart on a the (very early) Valentine card she was making for her brother, her brother got creative on his own.

He said, and I quote, “Wook wike Papa.”

Of course I could have cleaned it off right away and put away the markers.  But  – no!

I went and got my camera instead for some classic real-life documentary pictures of this charming, silly, mustached little boy. (by the way, the marker was on his teeth too.)

This is the stuff that matters.  Real moments that make you feel something – laughter, for instance. 🙂
