I digress from my normal photo-a-day postings today to showcase a little something new I tried out this morning.
I borrowed my husbands legal office space and put up some gigantic background boards (ahem – they’re called “v-flats”) and used the natural light coming in from the windows to take some shots of a friend.
I was disappointed that the space we were shooting in gave me approximately 4 feet square of usable space since the office actually had furniture in it (the nerve!).
My husband even admitted that when he was considering a new space for his firm a few years ago, he neglected to consider my window and space needs, should I desire to throw up an impromptu studio one Saturday morning. Harumph! (kidding. Only kidding. But the next time he moves to a bigger office, I’m campaigning for a space with lots of windows, light, high ceilings….)
Anyway, we worked with what we had space-wise, and tried out a bunch of poses to see what looked best. Natural light is THE BEST for shooting portraits – check it out, there’s no artificial light in these photos at all.
I’ll definitely be working on this angle of the Appelman Images Photography business more – stay tuned as I get more practice and build this particular portfolio in the near future!
And remember, you can see more of my beauty portrait on my other post, and see some Naperville lifestyle photography such as this sweet family photography post, some energetic leaping photographs, and take on another point of view with these photos.
Ciao for now,
-Kate
